Flash gel polish - where the glow comes from

The flash effect is a flake that reflects light. In ordinary glitter the light scatters in all directions, but here it returns straight to its source - so the nails only light up when strong, point light falls on them. In the salon under the lamp, in a photo with your phone's flash, in the glare of spotlights.

The effect comes from flakes with a special structure, including glass ones. Their surface works like microscopic mirrors set at the right angle. In diffused daylight the set looks calm, with a delicate shine, and the moment a photo is taken it can flare up so that the nails become the brightest point of the frame.

It is a completely different effect from classic glitter or nail powder. Glitter sparkles all the time, more or less the same in any light. Flash is two-faced - sometimes discreet, sometimes spectacular, depending on the lighting.

Who a flash gel polish is for

For clients who photograph their hands a lot. Flash looks stunning in photos, and it is the photos that made the effect famous - a set that looks elegant in real life turns into a star on camera.

For evening occasions, New Year's Eve and the holidays, where there is plenty of light and it is point light. In such conditions flash works non-stop.

For people who like a flash of shine but do not want to wear it at full strength every day. In the office, in diffused light, the set behaves calmly.

How to work with a flash gel polish

  • Prepare the natural nail plate, degrease it and apply an adhesion-boosting preparation.
  • Apply a gel polish base and cure it in the lamp.
  • Spread the polish in an even layer. With products that have a dense flake, work calmly - the material spreads differently from an ordinary colour.
  • Cure, adjusting the time to the power of your lamp.
  • If the coverage needs strengthening, apply a second layer and cure again.
  • Finish with a top coat. High Gloss Top in the no-wipe version works well - a smooth, very glossy surface lets more light through to the flake.

The finish matters more here than with an ordinary colour. A matte finish almost completely dulls the effect, because a matte surface scatters the light before it reaches the flake. If you want full radiance, stay with a glossy top coat.

How to show the effect to a client

This is a practical point worth remembering at the nail desk. A client sitting in diffused light may not see what she paid for - flash needs point light to speak up.

The simplest way: take a photo with your phone with the flash on. An effect that looks subtle in real life will flare up fully on the screen. It is also ready-made material for social media - flash sets are among the most widely shared.

Flash and other light effects

Nail design has several effects based on light, and they are easy to confuse.

Flash reflects point light straight back to its source. It is most visible in a camera flash and in harsh light.

Cat eye works completely differently - the flakes react to a magnet and line up into a luminous line. The effect is always visible, regardless of the lighting. You will find shades with this finish in the cat eye gel polish category.

The mirror-like glass effect is a smooth, mirror-like surface with no visible flake - see the mirror-like glass effect.

Glitter shines constantly and evenly, regardless of the angle at which the light falls.

These effects can be combined, for example by putting flash only on selected nails and covering the rest with a colour from the same family.

Safety at work

Gel polishes are for professional use only. Avoid contact of the uncured product with skin and eyes - it may cause an allergic reaction. Use only on a healthy, undamaged nail plate. Use a nail dust collector when filing a set.

Store gel polishes at a temperature of 5 to 30 °C, in a tightly closed container, away from sunlight. The full ingredients list is given on each product page.

Flash gel polishes - frequently asked questions

Why does my flash gel polish not shine?

Most often because of the light. Flash needs a strong point source - in diffused daylight it looks calm, and that is normal. Check the effect under a lamp or in a photo with a flash.

Does flash work under a matte top coat?

Practically not. A matte surface scatters the light before it reaches the flake, so the effect almost disappears. With flash, stay with a glossy top coat.

How does flash differ from glitter?

In the way it reflects light. Glitter sparkles constantly and evenly. Flash reflects point light straight back to its source, so it only flares up in strong lighting, and it looks much stronger in photos than in real life.

How many layers should I apply?

Usually two - the first builds the effect, the second evens out the coverage. With a dense flake, one is sometimes enough.

Is flash suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. In office or daylight the set looks calm, with a delicate shine. It only shows its full potential in the evening or in a photo.
