AquaNess watercolours for nails – what watercolour paints are

AquaNess watercolour paint is a dry paint cake with a volume of 2 ml. Before painting you wet it with water – the more water, the lighter and more transparent the colour, the less water, the stronger the pigment. The paints dissolve well, so once dry the surface of the nail art is flat and easy to seal with a top coat.

Watercolours on nails give the nail stylist plenty of creative freedom. With a few pigmented paints you can build delicate wedding flowers, spring twigs, abstract splashes of colour or a night sky. Every client can get a unique design, and painting with watercolours quickly becomes a favourite nail art technique.

Watercolour paints – standard and metallic colours

Standard colours are 22 paints with no glitter or shimmer particles: from white, nude and sand, through yellow, orange, red, pinks, fuchsia and cherry, to greens, light blues, navy, purples, sepia, brown and black. You can mix and shade the colours, so from one palette you can build both pastels and deep, saturated shades.

Metallic paints are 22 shades in two versions: glitter ones with very high coverage and pearl ones, which give the painted design a delicate glow. They work great as an accent on a design made with standard paints.

Palette for watercolour paints and ready-made sets

The palette for watercolour paints has 24 slots and an area for mixing colours. AquaNess containers fit the compartments – you can take each one out separately, and when your favourite colour runs out, you replace just that one paint. If you are starting out with watercolours, choose a set: a palette with a full set of standard paints or a palette with 22 metallic paints.

Painting with watercolours on nails step by step

  • ♥ prepare a gel polish or gel nail set and buff its surface
  • ♥ dilute the paint with water and pick up the colour with a soft, natural-bristle brush, such as the Aquarelle Brush
  • ♥ apply the paint to the nail plate and build the design in thin layers
  • ♥ blur the edges with a clean, damp brush – this creates the transparent effect typical of watercolours
  • ♥ wait until the paint is completely dry
  • ♥ seal the nail art with a top coat and cure it in the lamp

Watercolour nail paints – frequently asked questions

Are ordinary watercolours suitable for nails? For nail sets it is better to use paints made for nail art. AquaNess paints have strong pigmentation, give a flat surface once dry, and their containers fit the palette at your nail desk.

Are watercolour and acrylic paints the same thing? No. Watercolour paints are diluted with water – they give a transparent effect and smooth colour transitions. Acrylic paints have a thicker consistency and cover more strongly.

How do you seal watercolours on nails? When the paint is completely dry, apply a top coat and cure it in the lamp. The nail art is locked into the nail set and does not wear off.

How many watercolour paint colours are in the range? 22 standard colours and 22 metallic paints. You can buy each paint singly or in a set with a palette.
