Nail dehydrator: what it is for and how it protects against lifting

There are always oily substances on the nail: natural sebum, hand cream, or traces left by touching the hands during the service. You cannot see them, but they are enough to make the base coat hold less well across the whole nail. You know the result: lifting, meaning the product coming away from the nail near the free edge, and chips after just a few days.

Nail Fresh temporarily dehydrates the upper layers of the nail. It contains two solvents, isopropyl alcohol and acetone, which remove every kind of oily substance. This makes the nail set last longer. After a short wait the surface turns matte, leaving the nail dry and ready for the next layers.

Dehydrator vs acid and acid-free primer: nail preparation

The dehydrator, also called a nail degreaser, and the product that increases adhesion often stand side by side on the nail desk, but they have different functions. The dehydrator degreases and dries the nail at the start of the manicure. The adhesion product works one step further: it creates a layer that links the base coat with the surface of the natural nail plate.

The order is always the same: dehydrator first, and only then SuperBond or a primer chosen for your client's nails. On healthy nails the dehydrator is sometimes the only product before the base coat. With weak, oily nails or nail sets that wear off quickly, you add a bonding layer as well.

Dehydrator and primer: application step by step

• ♥ Prepare the nail and matt the nail plate, then thoroughly remove the dust

• ♥ Apply SuperBond or a primer if the nail needs it, then the base coat

Application takes a moment, yet it is one of the stages of a nail set that the result depends on most. For removing dust before the dehydrator, lint-free wipes that do not split apart will come in handy.

Nail plate preparation, adhesion and the durability of the nail set

The most careful application of gel polish will not make up for a badly prepared nail. If the base coat lands on an oily or moist nail plate, the nail set will start to lift sooner than it should and your client will come back for a repair. A dehydrator is a few dozen seconds that save you work at the next visit, and the foundation of a long-lasting nail set.

Do not confuse it with nail cleanser. Cleanser wipes off the sticky (inhibition) layer at the end of the work, while the dehydrator prepares the nail right at the very start. They are two different products and each has its place in the order of work.
