Tixy Gels – Thixotropic Builder Gels for Nails

Tixy Gels – Thixotropic Builder Gels for Nails

Products: 33

Thixotropic gel is a product that is thick in the pack and becomes slightly thinner on the nail plate. Because of this it does not run onto the cuticles and gives you full control over the shape of the nail. The Tixy series was created in 2018 for the no-file technique.

What is a thixotropic gel and how does thixotropy work

Thixotropy, in simple words, is shape memory. In the bottle the gel is thick, and once applied to the nail it becomes slightly thinner and stays in place like a drop on a rough surface. It does not spread as quickly as standard builder gels.

In practice this means more control over the shape of the nail. You have time to spread the product with the brush and set the apex, and the slightly self-levelling properties make the surface smooth by itself after a moment. Fewer corrections with the brush and less filing at the end.

Thixotropic properties – shape memory in practice

This consistency is especially welcome at the start of working with gel, when a product that runs away can spoil the whole result. But experienced nail stylists will appreciate it too, as they care about repeatability and speed – the shape settles predictably, without a fight with the product.

Tixy gels are durable and flexible, and can be pinched. They are suitable for nail extensions on a form, for building and strengthening the natural nail plate and for infills.

The consistency does not flood the cuticles, so you can work calmly near the nail fold and sculpt the free edge without rushing. In a gel polish manicure it works well as an overlay that levels the nail plate, and with a structured French it lets you set the smile line precisely.

Tixy 1-phase Clear – one-phase gel

The series also includes Tixy 1-phase Clear – a transparent one-phase gel which, thanks to its formula, can also be used as a base. It combines perfectly with the other gels in the Tixy series, so you can work with the whole line without worrying about product compatibility.

Tixy Cover shades – nail gels for nail stylists

Tixy Cover gels are available in many shades: Pink, Natural, Milky, Sugar Pink, Hot Pink, Rosy Tan, Petit Pink and Marshmallow. Each of them comes in three sizes – 15, 30 and 50 ml.

The Diamond variants in Pink and Natural stand out separately. These are the same gels enriched with silver glitter, which gives a delicate glow. You will also find them in the gels with glitter category.

How to work with a thixotropic gel step by step

  • ♥ Degrease and dry the nail plate with Nail Fresh
  • ♥ Apply SuperBond or a primer matched to the type of nail plate
  • ♥ Apply the base and cure it – this is the stage where the adhesion of the whole nail set is decided
  • ♥ Apply a thin layer of gel over the cured base
  • ♥ Spread the right amount of product, building the apex
  • ♥ Cure in the lamp, matching the time to its power

With a thixotropic gel you do not need to rush – the product stays where you put it. This is the main difference compared with classic self-levelling gels, where you have to work quickly.

Tixy gels and the other series

If you are looking for gels with a different consistency, check the other categories: self-levelling gels spread by themselves and level the surface without help from the brush, while non-self-levelling gels require you to guide the product fully.

Tixy sits somewhere in between: you control the shape, but you do not have to smooth out every irregularity by hand.

Thixotropic gel – frequently asked questions

Is a thixotropic gel suitable for beginners? Yes, this consistency is the most forgiving of mistakes, because the product does not run to the sides.

Does Tixy need filing? The series was created for the no-file technique – the slightly self-levelling properties keep preparation to a minimum.

Can I combine different Tixy gels? Yes, the products in the series combine perfectly with each other.

Which volume should I choose? 15 ml to try a colour, 30 ml for regular work, 50 ml for the shades you use most often.
