Put simply, thixotropy is a kind of “shape memory”. In the jar the gel is thick, and once applied to the nail plate it becomes slightly runnier. It stays where you put it, like a droplet on a rough surface: it doesn’t run off or spread out as quickly as standard builder gels. That gives you more control over the nail shape, and its lightly levelling properties mean the surface turns smooth after a moment. It makes a real difference to your comfort at work – fewer corrections with the brush and less filing.

How to build a nail and create a nail set step by step

Good preparation determines how well the gel adheres to the nail plate. Cleanse and dehydrate it with Dehydrator Nail Fresh, then apply a base coat and cure it – this is the stage where you take care of adhesion. Naked Base Pink, for example, works well here, as it can also be used as a base under gel. Careful application of the base coat is the foundation of good adhesion for the whole manicure.

• Apply a thin layer of gel over the cured base coat.
• Spread the right amount of gel to create a perfect apex.
• Cure in the lamp, adjusting the time to its power: 120 seconds in a 36W UV lamp or 60 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp.

You can leave the finished structure in its natural pink or cover it with a coloured gel polish and finish with a glossy top coat – depending on the design you’ve agreed with your client. Working on each nail doesn’t have to be stressful, because the product doesn’t spread as quickly as a standard gel.

Tixy Cover Pink or Smooth Gel Candy Pink – which pink should you choose?
