Put simply, thixotropy is a kind of “shape memory”. In the jar, Tixy Cover Pink is thick, and once applied to the nail it becomes slightly runnier. Even so, the gel stays where you put it, like a droplet on a rough surface – it doesn’t creep onto the cuticles or spread out as quickly as standard builder gels. That gives you more time to calmly sculpt the nail shape instead of chasing material that has already run. This is the general principle of thixotropy in builder gels: the material doesn’t flow towards the cuticles or flood them, so the gel works with your brush rather than against it.

The second feature is its lightly levelling consistency: a moment after application, the surface of the gel turns smooth. This combination of control and levelling means you work more efficiently across many nail sets in a row – a typical situation in the professional salons where the largest jar usually ends up.

How to work with a thixotropic gel – step-by-step application

Before you start building, take care of adhesion between the layers – the durability of the whole nail set depends on it:

1. Cleanse and dehydrate the nail with Dehydrator Nail Fresh.
2. Apply a primer or SuperBond suited to your client, then a base coat – and cure it.
3. Apply a thin layer of Tixy Cover Pink over the cured base coat.
4. Use your brush to spread the right amount of gel to create a perfect apex and the right nail shape.
5. Cure in the lamp, adjusting the time to its power: 120 seconds in a 36W UV lamp or 60 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp.

You can leave the finished structure in its natural pink or cover it with gel polish and finish with a top coat – depending on the design you’ve agreed with your client.
