Making use of thixotropy

Thixotropy, in a very simplified way, is shape memory. Added to a gel, it makes it much easier to control the movements of the brush and also allows you to build the nail plate quickly. A gel with thixotropy stands out for its particular durability, even up to several weeks. Thanks to this technology the gel is thick in the pack, but once applied to the nail plate it becomes slightly thinner and stays in place like a drop on a rough surface. Unlike standard builder gels, it does not spread or run as quickly as they do. Julia Nessa gives you more control.

Julia Nessa gives you a choice

In our shop there are several types of Tixy gel for the no-file technique. First, they differ in volume. 15 ml, 30 ml and 50 ml are available. Tixy can be transparent (Tixy 1-phase clear), with glitter (Tixy Cover Diamond Natural, Tixy Cover Diamond Pink), milky (Tixy Cover Milky), pink (Tixy Cover Pink), beige (Tixy Cover Natural), and also in the shades Hot Pink, Marshmallow, Petit Pink, Rosy Tan and Sugar Pink.

The simplicity of Tixy gel for the no-file technique

Using Tixy is really simple. You only need to remember to apply the gel to a degreased and well-prepared nail plate. The curing time depends on the type of lamp. In an LED lamp 60 seconds is enough. Curing in a UV lamp takes twice as long. Durability, flexibility and the ability to pinch the product are further aspects that define the simplicity of Tixy gel for the no-file technique. Choose control and take advantage of the Julia Nessa range.

What the no-file gel technique is about

In the no-file technique you build the shape of the nail with the brush so precisely that after curing you do not have to file the whole surface with an e-file or a nail file – usually it is enough to gently even out the free edge. That means less dust at your nail desk, a shorter appointment and less strain on the natural nail plate. The key is a gel that stays exactly where you put it, or levels itself.

Which gel to choose for the no-file technique

  • ♥ Tixy – thixotropic gels of medium hardness; they do not run onto the cuticles and give you full control over the shape, and after a moment their surface becomes smooth by itself
  • ♥ Tixy 1-phase clear – a one-phase, transparent gel developed in 2018 for the no-file technique; it can also be used as a base
  • ♥ Smooth Gel – a hard, self-levelling no-file gel: it spreads itself across the nail plate and forms a smooth, mirror-like glass effect
  • ♥ OMGel – a self-levelling builder gel in a bottle for overlays and infills

If you want to compare gels by consistency, take a look at the self-levelling gels category.

How to work with a no-file builder gel

  • ♥ prepare the nail plate as for any nail set: prepare the cuticles, buff the nail plate and degrease it with a nail cleanser
  • ♥ apply a thin layer of gel, rub it into the nail plate and cure it in the lamp
  • ♥ place a drop of gel in the centre of the nail and sculpt the shape with the brush – with Tixy you build the apex straight away, while with Smooth Gel you leave it for a few seconds to self-level
  • ♥ before you cure the gel, check the light line from the side and from the front of the nail – a correction at this stage takes seconds, while after curing you would have to file
  • ♥ cure the gel in the lamp and gently even out only the free edge

The no-file technique works both for overlays on the natural nail plate and when you want to extend the nails. The smooth surface of the gel is a good background for French, baby boomer, a nude colour or gel polish. The nail stylist saves time at every appointment, and the client does not have to put up with long preparation of the nail plate with an e-file.

No-file gels – frequently asked questions

Do you not use a nail file at all with a no-file gel? You do not file the whole surface – usually it is enough to gently even out the free edge and the shape of the side walls.

Which self-levelling no-file gel should I choose? Smooth Gel – it evens out the surface by itself, and it is also hard and can be pinched.

How long should Tixy gel be cured? 120 seconds in a 36W UV lamp or 60 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp.
