Smooth Gel Dusty Rose – a hard builder gel that levels itself

Builder gels, also called sculpting gels, are responsible for the shape of the nails and the strength of the nail set. The Smooth series gels have been developed with an entirely new formula, so that they are as easy as possible to work with and always give a beautiful result. Dusty Rose combines hardness with levelling – hardness and durability translate into a solid structure, and levelling helps you get a smooth surface without lengthy smoothing out with a brush. Unlike self-levelling gels, which spread across the nail on their own as soon as you apply them, Smooth Gel needs to be spread – you decide on the shape, and the levelling only smooths out the consistency that is already in place.

Builder gel for nail extensions on a form

Smooth Gel is a series you can use successfully when working on nail forms. A well-fitting form is the basis of the right shape – our nail forms for extensions will help you choose. The levelling formula makes it easier to sculpt an extension with an even surface, and the hard gel gives the structure solid support – the same goes for work on the natural nail plate, when you are only strengthening the nail without changing its length.

The most important moment in this work is the C-curve. You can pinch Dusty Rose – we recommend doing it after about 20 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp, and then finishing the cure. This makes it easier to give the structure a perfect shape and an even C-curve, even in this muted shade.

50–60% coverage, for semi-transparent, glass-like nails

The beige-pink colour of Dusty Rose is visible, but at 50–60% coverage it is not fully opaque – the natural nail plate shows through the structure slightly. The effect is glassy and natural, and works well for clients who want a subtle everyday colour but still need a durable, hard structure. If your client prefers a more defined, milky pink effect, reach for Smooth Gel Light Pink 15 ml with 70–80% coverage.

You can leave the structure in natural beige-pink or cover it with gel polish and a top coat – it depends on the design you agree with your client. This kind of gel nail set looks muted and elegant from day one, and the durability of the structure depends above all on careful preparation of the nail plate.

How to apply Smooth Gel Dusty Rose builder gel – step by step

• After prepping the cuticles and finishing the manicure, degrease and dry the nail with Nail Fresh.
• Once the Nail Fresh has dried, apply SuperBond or a primer, e.g. Acid Free Primer, choosing it to suit your client’s needs – the adhesion of the whole nail set depends on this step.
• Massage the first layer of base coat into the nail and cure it.
• If you’re doing extensions, fit a nail form. Apply a thin layer of gel over the cured base coat.
• Spread the right amount of gel to create a perfect apex.
• Cure for 120 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp. If you’re pinching the C-curve, do it after about 20 seconds and then put the hand back in the lamp.
