Rubber Base – a rubber base coat for nails
Rubber Base has a medium-thick consistency and 60–70% coverage, which gives the effect of natural, healthy-looking nails. It is flexible, so it works well with the nail plate – it was created mainly with weak and brittle nails in mind. It lets you gently build up the natural nail plate and can be used without a coloured gel polish. There are three shades to choose from:
- ♥ Rubber Base Milky – a milky rubber base that makes neon colours pop and makes pastel shades easier to apply
- ♥ Rubber Base Natural – a beige, fully self-levelling base, an ideal foundation for French, baby boomer and nude sets
- ♥ Rubber Base Pink – a pink rubber base for bridal sets, French and baby boomer
You will find the clear version – Rubber Base Clear, which can also be used as a base under builder gel – in the base coats for builder gel category.
How a rubber base differs from an ordinary gel polish base
A classic, clear gel polish base creates a thin layer that is responsible mainly for the adhesion of the polish to the plate. A rubber base has a flexible formula and pigment, so it does more: it evens out irregularities in the plate, camouflages discolouration and strengthens weak, brittle nails. The flexible layer works together with the nail, which helps the set last. Thanks to the pigment, a coloured base can also replace a polish – you can do a nude gel polish manicure with just the base and a top coat.
Naked Base cover bases – coverage from 30 to 80%
The Naked Base series are thick, self-levelling cover bases of medium hardness. They strengthen weak and brittle nails, let you build up the natural plate and build the apex, and the pigment camouflages imperfections caused by damage or the natural curves of the nail. The shades differ mainly in their level of coverage:
- ♥ Naked Base – milky pink, 30–40% coverage, the most natural effect
- ♥ Milky Naked Base – milky white, 30–40% coverage
- ♥ Naked Base Porcelain Pink – approx. 60% pigmentation
- ♥ Naked Base Warm Pink – a warm pink, approx. 70% pigmentation
- ♥ Naked Base Porcelain Milky Pink – the most opaque in the series, 80%
- ♥ Naked Base Pink and Naked Base Milky Cloud – coloured bases whose shade can replace a gel polish
Rubber base or Naked Base – which to choose
Choose Rubber Base when you want flexibility, a natural effect and a gentle levelling of the plate – it works well on weak and brittle nails, and when a client wants to wear just the base with a top coat. Reach for Naked Base when the plate needs a clear build-up and apex building, and you want to match the coverage exactly to the client – from 30 to 80%. Many nail stylists keep both series on their nail desk and choose the base to suit the hand, not the technique.
How to apply a rubber base
- ♥ degrease and dehydrate the nail plate with Nail Fresh
- ♥ apply SuperBond or a primer, choosing it to suit the nail plate
- ♥ apply the first thin layer of base, massaging it into the nail – it is responsible for adhesion, and without massaging it in the base holds less well
- ♥ apply a second layer, building the apex and evening out the natural curves of the nail
- ♥ cure the base: Rubber Base 120 seconds in a 36 W UV lamp or 30 seconds in a 48 W DUAL LED lamp; Naked Base 180 seconds in a 36 W UV lamp or 30 seconds in a 48 W DUAL LED lamp
- ♥ apply a gel polish or – for a nude set – go straight to a gel polish top coat
