A milky gel polish base instead of colour – a two-step manicure
The most common scenario with this base is a minimalist manicure without coloured polish: the base, with a top coat over it. The milky colour evens out the shade of the nail plate and gives the look of natural, healthy nails, so the client leaves with well-groomed hands and you save time at the colour stage. Unlike a classic clear base, you don’t need to add polish here to get an even result. This kind of gel polish manicure looks good on short nails, at work and every day.
If a client prefers colour, the milky base still does its basic job – it is the foundation of a gel polish manicure, ensures adhesion and durability of the nail set, and gel polish applied over an evened-out background looks cleaner.
Features of the Milky Cloud base
- Shade: milky – can replace a gel polish.
- Formula: thick, self-levelling.
- Camouflage: masks minor imperfections of the nail plate.
- Hardness: medium – strengthens weak and brittle nails.
- Overlay: can be used to build up the natural nail plate.
- Base for gel: yes.
- Volume: 8 ml, made in Europe.
How to apply the milky base, cure it in the lamp and finish the manicure with a gel polish top coat
- Degrease and dehydrate the nail plate with Nail Fresh.
- Once it has dried, apply SuperBond or a primer suited to the nail plate type, e.g. SuperBond 10 ml.
- Rub the first layer of base in thoroughly.
- Use the second layer to build the apex and level out the natural curves.
- Cure the base in the lamp: 30 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp or 180 seconds in a 36W UV lamp.
- If the base is replacing colour, finish the nail set with a top coat, e.g. High Gloss Top no wipe.
When the base is worn as the colour, every unevenness will show, so before curing, check the surface in good light and tidy up the edges by the cuticles. The self-levelling properties make it easier to get a smooth surface and to build an apex, but a thick layer is harder to cure properly – so work in two thinner layers.
Milky base for gel and for nail extensions
This base can be used as a base under a gel. On the cured layer you can carry on building up or extending with a builder gel – you will get a consistent, milky effect with, for example, Tixy Cover Milky 15 ml. One base for both gel polish and gel means fewer products on your nail desk and simpler organisation of your work.
A milky background in a nail set – what to combine the base with?
Milky colour is a neutral background that handles add-ons well. On the cured base you can do simple nail art, a thin line along the free edge or a single accent on one finger, and seal it all with a top coat. With this kind of finish the most important thing is a smooth, even surface – which is why the self-levelling consistency and the option to build up make things much easier here.
Which milky base from the Naked series – and what to use under a French?
There are two milky Naked bases in the range that are easy to confuse. If you need a milky-white effect with coverage stated as 30–40%, choose the milky-white Naked Base with 30–40% coverage. This base, on the other hand, has a shade that can replace a gel polish – a good choice when you want a “base + top” nail set. For French manicure and nude nail sets, we recommend the flexible rubber bases Rubber Base Pink and Natural, and Rubber Base Milky for neons and pastels.
Who is Naked Base in the milky shade for?
It’s a product for a nail stylist who often works with brittle nails or an uneven nail plate and wants the “naked” look – natural, clean and fresh. It works when a client asks for a delicate manicure without intense colour and you want to strengthen her nail plate at the same time. A long-lasting manicure starts with a well-chosen base – this one combines strengthening, camouflage and colour, which makes planning nail sets easier.
