Milky rubber base – features and uses
Milky is the variant of the rubber base that you will appreciate especially when working with colour. The milky foundation brings out neon shades beautifully and makes pastel polishes easier to apply. At the same time, the flexible formula of this gel polish base supports a weak nail plate, and the partial camouflage subtly evens out its appearance.
- Type: rubber base coat, a flexible product.
- Consistency: medium-thick.
- Coverage: 60–70%, the look of natural, healthy nails.
- Camouflage: partially masks imperfections and minor unevenness of the nail plate.
- Overlay: allows a light build-up over the natural nail plate.
- Lamp: 36W UV (120 seconds) or 48W DUAL LED (30 seconds).
- Volume: 8 ml, made in Europe.
This base is one of several rubber bases in the Julia Nessa range – flexibility is what all the nail bases in this line have in common, but each base has its own job, as explained below. A well-chosen base is the foundation of the whole nail set: it determines how the base will work with the colour and how long it will keep its look.
How to apply Rubber Base Milky rubber base step by step
- Degrease and dry the nail plate with Nail Fresh.
- Once it has dried, apply SuperBond or a primer, choosing the product to suit the nail plate.
- Apply the first, thin layer of Rubber base, massaging it into the nail plate.
- Use the next, slightly thicker layer to form the apex and even out the natural curves of the nail plate.
- Cure the base: 30 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp or 120 seconds in a 36W UV lamp.
Leave a small gap from the cuticles – base on the skin weakens the adhesion of the following layers and may cause irritation. It’s worth applying a thin, even film of product and curing each layer separately before moving on.
Over the cured base, apply a gel polish colour or go straight to a top coat if the client wants a minimalist look – Pure Shine 8 ml no-wipe top coat works well here. When filing, avoid exposure to product dust and do not let the base come into contact with the skin or eyes – it may cause an allergic reaction.
When to reach for Rubber Base Milky
This rubber base combines two roles: a strengthening foundation and a ready-made, natural nail set. Both as a base under colour and as a standalone base with a top coat – the same base works well in both ways of working. It works when a client has weak nails and wants a subtle look, but also when you are planning a neon or pastel gel polish manicure and want a vivid, bold colour. You will find ideas for such combinations in the article neon nails – inspiration. The product is for professional use only; it is made in Europe.
If instead of a milky foundation you need a shade for a French, baby boomer or bridal nail set, choose the pink Rubber Base Pink or the Natural version. As a base under gel, we recommend Rubber Base Clear. You will find the other nail bases in the same category as Milky.
The flexibility of this gel polish base matters especially with weak, brittle and splitting nail plates – the product works well with the natural plate, and the ability to build it up lightly lets you strengthen and even it out a little before moving on to colour. Thanks to this reinforcement of the gel polish manicure, the nail set lasts longer and the plate flexes less.
How a rubber base differs from a regular gel polish base
Rubber base is a flexible base – the rubber in its formula is responsible for that flexibility, so it works differently from a classic, hard gel polish base. The flexibility means it adapts well to the movement of the natural plate and works for nails weakened after the previous nail set has been removed. Milky also acts as a colour – a milky foundation under neons and pastels is its main advantage in a nail stylist’s daily work. After curing the base, always check that you have covered the area around the cuticles and the free edge of the plate thoroughly.

Can Rubber Base Milky be worn without gel polish?
Yes. The base can be used without a coloured gel polish – just apply a top coat.
What coverage does the milky rubber base have?
Coverage is 60–70%, which gives the look of natural nails and partially masks imperfections of the nail plate.
Is Rubber Base Milky suitable under gel?
As a base under gel, we recommend the Rubber Base Clear version. Milky works best under gel polishes – especially neon and pastel ones – or worn with just a top coat.
How many layers of rubber base should I apply?
Usually two: the first massaged into the plate and the second building the apex – cure each according to the time given for your lamp.
