Builder Gels

Builder Gels

Products: 133

Builder gel is the foundation of a long-lasting nail set – it strengthens the natural nail plate, lets you build an apex and extend the nails. In the Julia Nessa gel system you will find three series of builder gels that behave differently on the nail: thixotropic Tixy Cover, thick Master with a pudding-like consistency, and hard, self-levelling Smooth Gel. They are complemented by acrygels, nail prep products, nail cleansers and Dual Forms.

Below we explain how the individual gels differ, how to choose the right product for your technique and how to work with it step by step.

Builder gel for nails – thickness and consistency of the Tixy Cover, Master and Smooth Gel series

In this category you will find builder gels created for different working styles – from a subtle strengthening of the natural nail plate to long extensions. These are professional builder gels, so it is worth getting to know the features of each series and choosing the one that suits your hand best.

Tixy Cover – thixotropic builder gel

The Tixy series was created in 2018 for the no-file technique. Its hallmark is thixotropy, or shape memory: the gel is thick in the jar, becomes slightly thinner once applied to the nail, yet stays exactly where you put it, like a drop on a rough surface. It does not run or spread as quickly as standard builder gels, which gives you more control over the shape. It is durable and flexible, can be pinched, and is suited to both extensions and building on the natural nail.

The series includes Tixy Cover Pink 30 ml in pink, beige Tixy Cover Natural, milky white Tixy Cover Milky 50 ml and the Diamond version – pink with silver glitter. The pink, beige and Diamond versions are also slightly self-levelling.

Master – pudding-like consistency and unhurried work

The milky and pink Master gels have a very thick yet self-levelling consistency. They let you sculpt the nail for a long time without worrying that the product will run onto the cuticles, and you can even work on several nails at once. They were created for extreme shapes and structured French; they hold the C-curve beautifully without pinching, do not yellow during curing and do not change colour while worn. Master Milky Gel 30 ml also works well for correcting drooping nails, and Master Cloud Pink Gel is its pink counterpart.

Smooth Gel – hard gel in a new formula

The Smooth Gel series was created for nail stylists who are looking for gels that are hard yet self-levelling. Thanks to a completely redeveloped formula, the gels are easy to apply and the result stays beautiful. It works well on the natural nail plate and for extensions on a nail form. Pink Smooth Gel Candy Pink 50 ml and beige-pink Dusty Rose have 50–60% coverage, while milky pink Smooth Gel Light Pink has 70–80%. This level of coverage gives you the look of natural, glassy nails.

A good builder gel – how to choose a gel for nail extensions

Start choosing a gel with your technique, not the colour. A few questions will help narrow down the list:

  • Do you want control and less filing? Tixy Cover stays where you put it – a good builder gel for the no-file technique.
  • Are you building long, extreme shapes or a structured French? Thick Master gives you time to work and holds the C-curve without pinching.
  • Are you looking for hardness and a glass-like effect? Smooth Gel combines hardness with self-levelling and a specific level of coverage – to test the series, try for example Smooth Gel Dusty Rose 15 ml.
  • What volume? Tixy Cover and Smooth Gel come in 15 and 50 ml packs, among others, and Master in 15 and 30 ml – smaller sizes are good for testing, larger ones for everyday work.

The right builder gel is one that helps you achieve the perfect shape without a fight with the material, gives the whole structure durability and strength, and suits your client's nail plate. The longevity of the nail set and its resistance to damage in everyday wear depend on this choice.

Is there a best builder gel for nails? How we recommend choosing

There is no single product that is perfect for everyone – every nail stylist works differently, and the length and shape of nails vary from client to client. That is why your technique and the planned effect decide which gel works best. If you are only just comparing the series, start with smaller sizes and test how each consistency behaves.

Builder gel for beginners – which nail gel to choose? Tips for those just starting out

Julia Nessa gels are intended for professional use, so this tip is for nail stylists who are only starting their journey with gel manicure. At the beginning a predictable material helps. Tixy Cover stays in place and gives you more control over the shape, while Master lets you build for a long time without worrying about flooding the cuticles. A smaller pack is enough for your first attempts, for example Tixy Cover Natural 15 ml. With the right consistency it is easier to focus on proportions and the apex instead of correcting the product.

Self-levelling and one-phase gels – where to find them?

Besides the series described above, the shop has gels grouped into separate subcategories – including self-levelling gels, one-phase gels, hard gels and clear gels. This split by type makes it quick to compare products with similar features. Remember that the consistency, coverage and way of working of each gel are always described on the page of the specific product.

The gel system also includes acrygels. Dual AcrylicGel, available in a jar, combines acrylic and gel – you can use it, among other things, to fill in missing edges without placing a form. Liquid AcrylicGel in the 12 ml version comes in a bottle with a brush, and the 50 ml version in a jar. We describe both lines in detail in the acrygels category.

How to work with gel – nail prep and curing

The order of work in the descriptions of Julia Nessa gels is similar. A base is applied under the gel, and before it the nail plate is carefully prepared:

  • degrease and dry the nail with Nail Fresh,
  • apply Superbond or a Primer matched to the nail plate – such products give better adhesion,
  • rub in the first layer of base and cure it,
  • apply a thin layer of gel and spread it to build the apex,
  • cure the nail set in the lamp, matching the time to its power.

Over the cured builder gel you can apply colour and a top coat – choose the finish according to your design. The correct order is the condition of a professional nail set, whichever series you choose. The gels are for professional use: avoid contact of the product with skin and eyes, use it only on a healthy, undamaged nail plate and keep it away from children. The differences between product types are also described in our guide to nail gels.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I cure the gel?

For Tixy Cover and Master gels we give 120 seconds in a 36W UV lamp or 60 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp. Smooth Gel needs 120 seconds in a 48W DUAL LED lamp, and we recommend pinching the C-curve after about 20 seconds.

Which gel is suitable for strengthening the natural nail plate?

Tixy Cover and Smooth Gel are described as suitable both for extensions and for building on the natural nail plate.

Is the gel packaging always the same colour?

No. Tixy Cover and Master gels can come in a pink or white-transparent pack.
